- 吉包は、古備前正恒一派の刀工で、銘尽によると平安時代長暦(1039年)・元暦(1184)などとあり、また鎌倉前期の作もあり数代あるようである。本作は、雉腿風の区送りもない生茎で、全長1mを超える長さに、身幅広く3.5cmもあり、反り深く、腰反り・踏ん張り付き、先細くなり中鋒詰まる豪壮な太刀姿で、板目肌に、杢目交じり、地沸厚くつき、乱れ映り立つ地鉄に、小乱れに、互の目・丁子刃交じり、湯走り・飛び焼きかかり、足・葉よく入り、頻りに沸つき、金筋掛り、匂口明るく冴え、覇気溢れる名品である。銘が残っており、不明瞭ながら「吉」の字ではないかと思われる。Yoshikane was a swordsmith of the Ko-Bizen Masatsune school, and according to the Meijin, there are several generations of swordsmiths, including Choureki (1039) and Genreki (1184) in the Heian period, and also works in the early Kamakura period.
