- 直胤は、名を荘司箕兵衛といい、安永七年羽州山形で生まれ、水心子正秀門となり、後大慶と号し江戸日本橋にて鍛刀、文化九年には師正秀と共に館林藩主秋元家のお抱え工となり、文政5(1822)年ごろ筑前大掾を受領、嘉永元(1848)年に美濃介に転じ、安政四年、七十九歳で没している。この刀は、文化元年直胤27歳の作で、身幅広く、反りやや深い優美な姿で、保昌を範とした地沸がびっしりと厚く付く見事な柾目肌を鍛え、輝く沸と湯走りが美しく絡み、明るく冴える美しい地鉄に、のたれに、互の目交じり、金筋掛かり、匂深く、匂口明るく冴え、覇気溢れる傑作である。Naotane, whose name is Shoji Minobee, was born in Yamagata, Hashu in the 7th year of Anei. Became a builder of the house, received Chikuzen Taikei around 1822, changed to Minosuke in 1848, and died at the age of 79 in the 4th year of Ansei.
This sword was made by Naotane Taikei in the first year of Bunka, and has a wide, Sori, slightly deep and graceful appearance. A bright and clear beautiful ground iron, Notare, Gunome mixed, Kinsuji hanging, Nioi deep, Nioikuchi bright and clear, a masterpiece full of courage.
