- 義助は島田鍛冶の祖で、相州正広門と伝え、今川義忠より一字を授かるといい、作風は正宗や貞宗に見紛うものが現存する名工である。その後義助家は、氏親・氏輝・義元・氏真の今川氏五代に仕え、江戸時代に渡って繁栄した。初代義助は、康正頃、二代が明応頃、三代が大永頃に活躍している。この刀は、細い、内反りとなる端正な姿で、杢目肌に、地沸厚くつき、地景よく入る精良で美しい地鉄に、華やかな皆焼を焼き、沸深くよくつき、金筋・砂流し頻りに掛り、沸と匂が美しく絡み、匂口明るく冴え、正宗を思わせるような優れた出来である。Gisuke is the founder of Shimada blacksmithing, and is said to have been named Soshu Masahiro school. He is said to have received the Ichiji character from Yoshitada Imagawa, and is a master craftsman whose style can be mistaken for that of Masamune or Sadamune. Later on, the Gisuke family became Ujichika, Ujiteru, and Yoshimoto, Ujimasa. ・He served the five generations of the Imagawa clan, and flourished into the Edo period. The first generation Gisuke was active around the Kosyo period, the second generation around the Meio era, and the third generation around the Ouei era.
This sword is slender with a handsome appearance that becomes Uchizori. Mokumehada, Jinie entered thickly, Chikei entered with beautiful good Jigane, Gorgeouse Hitatsura-yaki, Deep Nie entered, Kinsuji, Sunagashi-shikirinikakari, Nie and Nioi are beautifully intertwined, Nioikuchi is bright and clear, and is an excellent work that brings to mind Masamune.
