新刀の祖と言われる埋忠明寿は、初代忠吉の師としても有名ですが、永禄二年(1559年)に生まれ、通称を彦次郎、初銘宗吉、後に入道して鶴峯明寿と号しました。
明寿の現存する作刀は少なく、その作刀のほとんどが、重要文化財、重要美術品、特別重要などに指定されています。また、明寿は金工としても名高く、鐔も重要文化財等に指定されています。Syakudouji Katachibori Kinzurihagashi
The Umetada family was a prestigious family on par with the Goto family, and was given important duties related to swords in addition to crafting tsuba. Umetada Myouju is said to be the originator of new swords. He is also famous as the teacher of the first Tadayoshi, but he was born in 1559, commonly known as Hikojiro, First Mei Soukichi, and later became a priest and called himself Tsurumine Myoujyu. There are few swords made by Myoujyu in existence, and most of them are designated as Juyo Bunkazai, Juyo Bijutsuhin, or Tokubetsu Juyo. Myoujyu is also famous for its metalwork, and its tsuba is also designated as Juyo Bunkazai.
