Drscription
The Ayanokoji school was active from the early to mid-Kamakura period, and the founder of the school, Sadatoshi, is cited as a representative worker, as well as Sadakichi, Sadanori, Jougou, and Sueyuki.
The characteristics of the Ayanokoji school include the graceful appearance of Tachi, which is typical of Yamashiro-den, and the elaborate jigane, but it presents a style that goes back in time to the Awataguchi and Rai schools of the same Yamashiro.
Traditionally, it was considered to be of the same era as the Rai school's Sokokugyo, but in recent years, the mainstream view is that it is a school close to the Sanjo and Gojo schools.
This Tachi is a perfect Ubu-nakago sword, 87.4cm(2 shaku 8 sun 8 bu) in length, as it was when it was made. Deep Sori, Koshizori-tsuki, Sakifusegokoro, Small-Kissaki, an elegant sword shape from the end of the Heian period to the early Kamakura period. Small-Midare, Small-Gunome, Mixed Small-Chouji, Kuichigai, Nijuba-shikirinikakari, Complex Midare, Yubashiri-shikirinikakari, Kinsuji and Sunagashi-shikirinikakaru, It works well in sword. This sword was handed down as Sanjo Munechika, Said to have been the property of Emperor Meiji, the vermilion-lacquered sword box features a gold-lacquered chrysanthemum crest and comes with a Kayonomiya storehouse tag.
