The crest was made by the second generation Sojo, and was made small by the 14th generation Keiko.

The Goto family prospered for 400 years, serving the Shogunate from the first Yujo, who served Ashikaga Yoshimasa, to the 17th Tenjo. The first Yujo brought the Mino carving style to its fullest and established the sophisticated and prestigious Goto carving (Iebori). The works of the first three generations of the Goto family, Yujo I, Sojo II, and Joshin III, are referred to as Ko-Goto(Old Goto). The second Sojo was born in 1461 as the second son of the first Yujo. He inherited the business established by his father and perfected it, solidifying the foundation of metal engraving for the Goto family. The 14th Keijo was born in Kyobashi in 1751 as the son of the previous Enjo. His name was Mitsumori and he was commonly known as Shirobei. He was a skilled craftsman and few of his works remain from the early modern period. He passed away in 1804.
