Kuniie swordsmith, whose real name is Yoshiwara Shouji, was born in 1945 as the second son of Yoshiwara Masahiro (the second Kuniie) and the younger brother of Yoshiwara Yoshindo.
He learned sword making from his grandfather, the first Showa master swordsmith, Kuniie, and won numerous awards, including the Effort Award, Encouragement Award, and Special Award at the New Famous Sword Exhibition. In 1982, at the young age of 37, he was certified as a swordsmith without examination and took on the name of Kuniie III.
He has made three Onshinpo Tachi swords for the Shikinen Sengu ceremony at Ise Jingu Shrine.
In 2008, he was appointed chairman of the All Japan Swordsmith Association and was recognized as a holder of the Tokyo Mukei Bunkazai (Intangible Cultural Property.)Aiming to reproduce ancient famous Bizen swords, he specializes in a style modeled on the gorgeous Ichimonji of Juka-Chouji-Midare.
This sword has wide Mihaba 3.5cm, Deep Sori, Koshizori-tsuki, Kissaki is a mid-Kamakura period Ikubi-style with a magnificent appearance. Small-Itamehada, Mixed small-Mokume, Jinie entered fine and thick, with clear Jigane, This is a masterpiece with deep Yaki , long Ashi and You and frequent Chouji-Midare that are gorgeously Midare.
