- 千手院派は、平安時代後期に興ったとされる大和最古の流派で、大和国奈良の東大寺に隷属する僧形の承仕法師が、もっぱら東大寺の僧兵の為に鍛刀をしていた。若草山麓の千手谷に鍛冶場があり、同地に千手観音を本尊とする千手院堂があり、その名が付いたと云う。この刀は、80cmを超える生ぶ茎の太刀で、身幅広く、反り深く、腰反り踏ん張りつき、先細く小鋒に結ぶ平安末期から鎌倉初期の太刀姿を呈し、板目肌に、流れ肌交じりよく鍛えて美しくつみ、直刃調に小乱れ交じり、ほつれ・打ちのけ・二十刃頻りに掛り、湯走り掛り、小足・葉よく入り、小沸よくつき、金筋・沸筋頻りに掛るなど刃中盛んに働き、匂口明るく冴える時代の上がる千手院の傑作である。 The Senjuin school is the oldest school in Yamato, which is said to have been established in the latter half of the Heian period. A monk-shaped swordsmith who belongs to Todaiji Temple in Yamatonokuni Nara was swordsmithing exclusively for Todaiji Temple monks. There is a smithy in Senjudani at the foot of Mt. Wakakusa, and there is Senjuindo, whose principal image is Senju Kannon, and it got its name.
This sword has 80cm over Ubu-Nakago Tachi. Wide Mihaba, Deep Sori, Koshizori-Funbaritsuku, It has the appearance of a sword from the end of the Heian period to the beginning of the Kamakura period, with a tapered small-kissaki. Itamehada, Mixed Nagarehada has beautiful Kitae-tsumi, Suguha-style and mixed Small-Midare, Hotsure, Uchinoke, Nijuba-shikirinikakari, Yuabshiri-kakari, Small-Ashi and You entered well, Small-Nie entered frequently, Kinsuji and Niesuji-shikirinikakari, It works well in sword, This is a masterpiece from the old Senjyuin, Nioikuchi is bright and clear.
