国路は、天正四年生まれ、堀川国広の高弟で、国広没後の慶長十九年頃に出羽大掾を受領している。同作には、のたれ込んで先の尖った所謂三品風の帽子が多いことや、銘字に於いてその初期には「国道」と道の字を用いていたこと、また晩年には「来」を冠しているものがあることなどから三品家となんらかの関係があったものと推測される。国広門下中随一の逸材で、その器用さと、種々の作風を示している点からは師に勝るものがある。この刀は、地沸微塵に厚くつき、地沸厚く付き、肌立ち、冴えた地鉄に、互の目に、丁子刃・重花風の丁子・蛙子調の丁子など交え、湯走り・二十刃・飛び焼きなど頻りに掛り、大小の輝く沸が美しくつき、金筋・沸筋幾重にも頻りに掛り、足葉よく入り、匂口明るく冴え渡る。華やかで覇気溢れる最高傑作である。金無垢(18K、38.9g)のハバキ が附帯する。Kunimichi was born in the 4th year of Tensho.He is a high-ranking younger brother of Horikawa Kunihiro, and received Dewadaijou around the 19th year of Keicho after the death of Kunihiro.In this work, Notarekonde-Sakinotogatta,There are many so-called Mishina-style Boushi, and in the early days, ["Kunimichi"] and the character of the road were used, and in later years, ["Rai"] was used.
