埋忠家は、後藤家と相並ぶ名家で鍔の工作の他に刀に関する大切な業務が与えられました。埋忠明寿は新刀の祖と言われる。初代忠吉の師としても有名ですが、永禄二年(1559年)に生まれ、通称を彦次郎、初銘宗吉、後に入道して鶴峯明寿と号しました。明寿の現存する作刀は少なく、その作刀のほとんどが、重要文化財振、重要美術品振、特別重要などに指定されています。また、明寿は金工としても名高く、鐔も重要文化財等に指定されています。
長州埋忠 岡田家の一派の家系は、初代宣政-二代宣重-三代政詮-四代政勝-五代政富-六代政知-七代政知-七代政英。
二代 宣重(ノブシゲ)
岡田氏。埋忠氏を称する。彦左衛門。正徳四年(1714)二月十四日家督を相続し享保七年(1722)十月三日六十三歳で没した。
