Akitsugu Amada's real name is Seiichi Amada, and he was born in Niigata Prefecture in 1928 as the eldest son of Sadakichi Amada.
In March 1945, he moved to Tokyo and entered the Japanese sword training school of Hikosaburo Akihide Kurihara, and began making swords in 1955.In 1955, he submitted his work to the 1st Sword Making Techniques Presentation and won the Excellence Award, in 1955. Started making homemade iron in 2013.Afterwards, he received numerous awards at the New Sword Exhibition, was certified without inspection in 1971, served as a production member for the Ise Jingu Shikinen Sengu Sacred Treasure Sword in 1978, and was designated as a Niigata Prefecture Intangible Cultural Property in 1973. He received the Masamune Prize in 1972 and 1970, became the chairman of the All Japan Swordsmiths Association in 1990, and was recognized as a holder of an important intangible cultural property Ningen Kokuho(Living National Treasure) in 1997. He passed away in 2013 at the age of 85.
