- 西蓮は、筑前鍛冶の祖と伝える良西の子、そして実阿の父、大左の祖父にあたる。鎌倉後期永仁頃の法師鍛冶で、名を国吉といい、西蓮は法師名である。「筑前国博多住談議所西蓮法師国吉」などの在銘作があり、鎌倉幕府が、文永・弘安の役（いわゆる元寇）後の弘安9年に博多に設置した鎮西談議所に属し、蒙古の襲来に備え鍛刀している。この刀は、元は80cm程の太刀で、反り深く、腰反りつき、小鋒に結ぶ優美な姿で、映りの立つ黒みをおびた杢目肌に、地景よく入り、直刃調に、小互の目交じり、二十刃掛り、小足頻りに入り、小沸よくつき、匂口締りごころに明るい優品である。Sairen is the son of Ryosai, who is said to be the founder of Chikuzen blacksmithing, Jitsua's father, and Osa's grandfather. A master blacksmith from the late Kamakura era Eihito, whose name is Kuniyoshi, and Sairen is his master's name. There are inscriptions such as ``Chikuzen Province Hakata Judangisho Sairenboshi Kuniyoshi,'' and the Chinzei Dangisho was established in Hakata by the Kamakura Shogunate in the 9th year of Koan after the Bunei-Koan War (so-called Genko). It belongs to the , and is forged in preparation for the Mongol invasion.
