- 三善長道の祖父、長国は、伊予松山に住し加藤嘉明に抱えられたが、寛永四年、加藤家が伊予から奥州会津に移封の際、一家を伴って移った。道長は、三善藤四郎といい、寛永十年会津に生まれ、初銘は道長、万治二年陸奥大掾を受領して、名を長道と改め、貞享二年、五十三歳で没している。別名「会津虎徹」と呼ばれるほど同時代の虎徹と姿や作風が酷似しており、長道の上作の中には、虎徹の初期作に肩を並べるほどの出来栄えの物もある。また新撰組の近藤勇が池田屋事件の功績により、会津藩主松平容保から賜った愛刀としても知られている。この刀は、身幅広く、反り浅い寛文新刀の姿で、小板目肌つみ、地沸微塵に厚く付き、地景細かく入る精良で明るく冴えた地鉄に、腰の開いた互の目に、丁子刃など交え、小沸深くよくき、金筋・砂流し幾重にも頻りに掛り、刃中良く働き、覇気溢れ、匂深く、匂口明るく冴え渡る傑作である。Miyoshi Nagamichi's grandfather, Nagakuni, lived in Iyo Matsuyama and was held by Yoshiaki Kato, but in the 4th year of the Kanei era, when the Kato family moved from Iyo to Aizu in Oshu, he moved with the family.
