Kunitomo was Kunihiro Horikawa's nephew, was born in the same Hyuganokuniobi area as Kunihiro, became a disciple of Kunihiro, and lived in Yamashiro Horikawa.
Kunitomo is said to have provided direct guidance to Kunisada I and Kunisuke I, who were the founders of the Osaka Kaji school. The sword created in collaboration with Kunihiro has been designated as an important cultural property( Juyo Bunkazai) , and the sword has been designated as an important art object( Juyo bijutsuhin).
