Swordsmith Shohei, whose real name is Kenichi Miyairi, was born in Nagano Prefecture in the 2nd year of the Taisho era.He entered Hikosaburo Kurihara's Japanese sword training school in 1933, and won many awards at the New Japanese Sword Exhibition and the Army Gunto Exhibition.
In 1951, he responded to the call of his master Hikosaburo Kurihara and created the Kouwa-Kinen sword.
In 1951, it became possible to make art swords and the production was approved by the Cultural Properties Protection Committee.
From 1955 to 1955, he won the special prize at the Japanese Art Sword Preservation Association's sword making technique presentation, and in 1960, he received the Mukansa.
In 1961, he was certified as a Juyo-Mukei Bunkazai Hojisya(Ningen-Kokuhou)(holder of important intangible cultural property (Living National Treasure)). In 1971, "Shohei" was changed to "Yukihira". He passed away in 1972 at the age of 64.
