- 古今銘尽などには、国分寺助国を法華鍛治の祖とし、三原派とは別に備後国葦田郡物なる系図をあげている。古来、助国については、一部の銘鑑では備前国分寺と載せ備前鍛治とする説もあるが、「備州国分寺住人助国作」と長銘に切ったものがあり、鎌倉時代より南北朝期にかけての備後物は、備州住と切るのが慣例であることなどから、今日では「備前」は「備後」の誤記であるとして、備後説が有力となっている。年紀作は、元徳元年があり、銘鑑や押形には徳治二年・嘉暦二年などが見られ、鎌倉時代後期の活躍時期は明白である。
この刀は、身幅広く、鎬高く、反り深く、腰反りつき、菖蒲造の精悍な姿で、小板目肌つみ、所々板目肌を交え、地沸微塵につき、映りたつ地鉄に、直刃調に、小互の目交じり、湯走り掛かり、二十刃・ほつれ・食い違いなど掛り、足・葉細かく入り、小沸よくつき、金筋頻りに入るなど、刃中よく働く優品である。For Kokonmeidukushi and others, Kokubunji Sukekuni is the ancestor of Hokkekaji, and a genealogy called Bingonokuni Ashidagunbutsu is given separately from the Mihara faction. Since ancient times, there is a theory that Sukekuni is listed as Bizenkaji in some inscriptions, but there is a long name "Bisyukokubunjisumibito Sukekunisaku", and the Bingo thing from the Kamakura period to the Nanbokucho period is cut as Bisyuzumi. Today, the Bingo theory is predominant, as "Bizen" is a misrepresentation of "Bingo" because it is customary. The yearly work has the first year of Gentoku, and the inscriptions and Oshigata show Tokuji 2 and Karyaku 2 years, and the period of activity in the latter half of the Kamakura period is clear.
