- 鎬造、庵棟、身幅広く、反り深く、中鋒やや延びる。Shinogidukuri, Iorimune, Wide Mihaba, Deep Sori, Chu-Kissaki slightly extended.

- 元平は、延慶元年（1744）に奥元直の嫡子として生まれ、名を奥考左衛門と称し、父のもとで鍛刀の技術を学び、38歳で薩州島津家藩工となり、寛政元年には大和守を受領している。伯耆守正幸と共に薩摩新々刀の双璧と言われ、新々刀屈指の名工である。文政九年七月十五日84才没。この刀は、元平54才の作で、二尺五寸二分の長さに、身幅広く3.6㎝、重量も1.1kgを超え、先幅も広く、鋒延びごころで、反りの深い豪壮な体配となり、浅くのたれて、小互の目交じり、ほつれ・食い違い・打ちのけ風・湯走りかかり、二十刃ごころとなり、小足・葉入り、地刃盛んに沸づき、金筋・沸筋頻りにかかるなど働き豊かで、地刃共に冴え渡り、匂深く、頗る健全で出来がよい。大和守の受領名が入らない献上銘となる渾身の最高傑作である。Motohira was born in 1744 as the eldest son of Okumoto Nao, and his name was Okukozaemon.He learned swordsmithing techniques under his father, and at the age of 38 became a craftsman for the Shimazu clan in Satshu, and then moved to Kansei. In the first year, he received the title of Yamato no kami. He is said to be one of the two masters of Satsuma Shinshinto, along with Houkinokami Masayuki, and is one of Shinshinto's finest craftsmen. Died on July 15, Bunsei 9, at the age of 84.
