Kunihiro Horikawa was originally a samurai who served the Ito family, who were the lords of Obi Castle in Hyuga, Kyushu. In 1599, he settled down in Ichijo Horikawa, Kyoto, and raised a group of excellent disciples called the Horikawa clan.
In addition to direct disciples such as Echigonokami Kunitomo, Dewa Daijo Kunimichi, and Okumajo Masahiro, his grandchild Shinkai Inoue and great-grandchild Sukehiro Tsuda represent Shinto in a family that has spread like branches and leaves. Many master craftsmen are listed, and Kunihiro is truly a master craftsman who deserves to be praised as the originator of new swords.
