- 了戒は、鎌倉中期から末期にかけての来派の刀工で、名を九郎左衛門と称し、来国行の子と伝え、来国俊とは兄弟となる。現存する年紀は、正応・永仁・嘉元等で、来国俊と同世代の刀工であることが認められる。作風は、来国俊に近似しているが、白けが目立ち、刃中が潤みごころとなる特色がある。この刀は、身幅広く、華表反りつき、中鋒となる山城の特色が表れた太刀姿で、板目肌つみ、杢目・柾目肌交じり、棒映り・乱れ映りが鮮やかに立つ地鉄に、直刃調に、小互の目・小丁子交じり、ほつれかかり、二十刃ごころとなり、小足よく入り、小沸つき、金筋・砂流し頻りにかかるなど刃中よく働き、匂口も潤るまず、来国俊とも鑑せられる出来の名品である。鑑定書では、了戒が四角の枠に囲まれていますが、茎の手入れをし明瞭に読めるようになっています。Ryokai was a swordsmith of the Rai school from the mid to late Kamakura period, and his name was Kurouzaemon.The surviving dates are Shouou, Einin, Kagen, etc., and it is recognized that he was a swordsmith of the same generation as Rai Kunitoshi.His style is similar to that of Kunitoshi Rai, but Shirake stands out and Urumigokoro is featured in the blade.

Kinsuji and Sunagashi hangs over and over, It works well on the blade, Nioikuchi-not Urumi,First of all, it is a masterpiece that can be regarded as a masterpiece by Rai Kunitoshi. On the certificate, Ryokai is surrounded by a square frame, but Nakago has been taken care of so that it can be clearly read.
