- 長曽祢虎徹は、江州彦根の長曽祢に生まれ、越前福井で甲冑師となり、承応頃（1652年）、五十歳の時に江戸に移り刀鍛冶に転じた。通称を三之丞と称し、入道して「こてつ入道」といい、初めは「古鉄」の字を用い、後に「虎徹」（はねとら銘）の文字を、さらに寛文四年からは「乕徹」（はことら銘）を使用している。年紀作は明暦二年から、延宝五年に渡り、延宝六年七十余歳で上野池之端に没する。当時その斬新な作風は一世を風靡し、新刀随一の巨匠として技量は高く評価されている。この刀は、はこ虎銘に変わる前の寛文三年頃の作で、元先の幅差つき、反りの浅い寛文新刀の姿を呈し、地沸微塵に厚く付き、地景入り、肌立って冴えた地鉄に、互の目が連れた瓢箪刃に所謂数珠刃と呼称される刃を交え、足・葉よく入り、小沸深くよく付き、金筋・砂流し細かく掛り、匂口明るく冴える傑作である。Nagasone Kotetsu was born in Nagasone Kotetsu in Hikone, Echizen, and became an armorer in Echizen Fukui. He commonly known as Sannosuke, and when he entered the road, he called it "Kotetsu Nyudo". At first, he used the character "Kotetsu", and later the character "Toru" (Hanetora inscription), and from the 4th year of Kanbun. "Tetsu" is used. His chronological work spans the 5th year of Enpo from the 2nd year of the Meireki era, and died in Ueno Ikenohata at the age of 70 years in the 6th year of Enpo. At that time, his novel style was predominant in the world, and his skill as the best master of new swords is highly evaluated.
This sword was made around the 3rd year of the Kanbun period before it changed to the Hako-Tora name. With width difference of Motosaki,shallow Sori It has appearance of a Kanbun-Shinto, Jinie entered finely thick, Chikei entered, Hadatachi clear Jigane, Gunome-tsure, Hyotanba and mixed Jujuba, There are Ashi and You well. Small-Nie-tsuki, Kinsuji and Sunagashi sinking finely, Nioikuchi is bright and clear.
