正恒は、平安後期に活躍した友成と並び古備前を代表する名工である。本作は、茎尻は詰めているが作刀時の姿を留める生ぶの太刀で、3.1cmと身幅広く、反り深く、腰反り・踏ん張り付き、先細くなり小鋒に結ぶ平安後期の優美な姿で、小板目肌つみ、杢目交じり、地沸微塵につき、乱れ映り立つ美しい地鉄に、直刃調に、小互の目交じり、湯走り・飛び焼きかかり、小足頻りに入る古雅な出来で、匂出来、小沸つき、金筋細かくかかり、匂口明るく格調高い名品である。Masatsune, along with Tomonari, who was active in the late Heian period, is a master craftsman representing Ko-Bizen.
