- 綾小路派は、鎌倉初期から中期にかけて活躍した一派で、一派の祖である定利が代表工として挙げられ、他に定吉、定則、定業、末行などが銘鑑に記載されている。綾小路派の特色としては、如何にも山城伝らしい優美な太刀姿や精緻な地鉄などが挙げられるが、同じ山城の粟田口派や来派よりも時代を遡る作風を呈し、従来、来派の祖国行と同時代とされてきたが、近年三条派や五条派に近い流派という見方が主流となっている。この太刀は、茎は古い時代に相州風に磨上られているが、腰反りのつく太刀姿で、小乱れに、小互の目・小丁子交じり、乱れの間が近く複雑に乱れ、湯走り・飛焼き頻りにかかり、二十刃ごころとなり、刃中沸が厚くついて、潤みごころを呈するなど、綾小路の見どころがよく示されている。また焼刃がたっぶりと残り、頗る健全である。The Ayanokoji school was active from the early to mid-Kamakura period, and the founder of the school, Sadatoshi, is cited as a representative worker, as well as Sadakichi, Sadanori, Jougou, and Sueyuki.

Traditionally, it was considered to be of the same era as the Rai school's Sokokugyo, but in recent years, the mainstream view is that it is a school close to the Sanjo and Gojo schools.
