- 初代信国は、来国俊の弟了戒の孫で、正宗の門に学ぶと伝え、信国派は、室町初期にかけて大いに繁栄した。初代信国の弟源五郎信国が豪族山村正信の求めに応じ南北朝時代文和頃に越後に移り、越後で山村信国派を起こし、その子も信国を名乗っている。この刀は、身幅尋常、重ねやや薄く、内反りの鎌倉末期のような品の良い姿で、板目肌がつみ、刃寄り棟寄り流れる地鉄に、直刃調に、小互の目交じり、湯走り・二十刃風掛り、小足入り、小沸よくつき、匂口明るい名品である。The first generation Nobukuni was the grandson of Ryokai, the younger brother of Kunitoshi Rai, and was said to have studied under Masamune.
Gengoro Nobukuni, the younger brother of the first Nobukuni, moved to Echigo around Bunwa in the Nanbokucho period at the request of Masanobu Yamamura, a local ruling family.
