甲冑師鐔とは、現存する鉄地のいた鐔の中で透しの技法少し加えた時代の古い物を甲冑師鐔と呼称している。この甲冑師鐔という名称の発生については、鐔の専門工の手になったものばかりでなく、たまたまその鐔にある透し模様が甲冑師の副業と解され、このように呼称されるようになった。
