- 来国長は、来国俊の門人で、鎌倉時代末期から南北朝時代にかけ活躍したが、後に京より摂津国中島に移住したことから、中島来と呼称されている。この刀は、元は二尺七寸五分ほどもあったと思われるが、磨上げて尚、身幅広く3.2cmもあり、反り深く、重ね厚く、中鋒となる鎌倉後期の堂々とした太刀姿となり、杢目交じりの板目肌に、地沸微塵につき、地景細かく入り、淡く映りの立つ地鉄に、小足・葉が頻りに入る中直刃を焼き、小沸よくつき、金筋砂流しかかるなど刃中の働き盛んで、来派の特色がよく示され、品格があり出来がよい。重要候補の名品である。Rai Kuninaga was a disciple of Rai Kunitoshi, and was active from the end of the Kamakura period to the Nanbokucho era, but later moved from Kyoto to Nakajima in Settsu Province, so he is called Nakajima Rai.
