The Syouami school prospered together with the Uchu school from the Muromachi period to the late Edo period. Items from the Muromachi and Momoyama periods are called Kosyouami. On the other hand, Kyosyouami is sometimes called something that dates back to the Momoyama and Edo periods. Centering on Kyoto, it spread widely throughout the country in Iyo, Awa, Aizu, Akita, Shonai, and the Edo period.
