Mokkougata Sinchuuji Sukidashibori Sukisage

Higotsuba is a sword tsuba made mainly in present-day Kumamoto and Yatsushiro.
Higo tsuba is characterized by the beauty of Jigane, Sukashibori and Zougan, and has a high appreciation value due to its unique design and excellent techniques give it great aesthetic value.
Representative Higo metalworkers include Hayashi, Hirata, Nishigaki, and Shimizu.
Hirata Hikozo is regarded as the founder of the Hirata school of Higo Tsuba. Originally surnamed Matsumoto, he was active during the early Edo period. He served Hosokawa Tadaoki and resided in Higo Province. In addition to iron, many of these round Tsuba were crafted from materials such as yamagane (unrefined copper), Suaka, brass, and a round Shakudo Tsuba, with the base metal treated in various ways to create distinctive surface textures(Hadaai). They also excelled in fold and silver NunomeZougan and KeshikomiZougan.
