Kurihara Akihide, originally named Hikosaburo Kurihara, was born in Sano City, Tochigi Prefecture, Meiji(12) in 1879. He was a former member of the House of Representatives. He became a pupil of Masanori—a swordsmith of the third generation following Suishinshi Masahide—and established the Japanese Sword Forging Training Institute within the garden of his own home (formerly the residence of Katsu Kaishu) below Akasaka Hikawa Shrine, where he trained many master smiths. He was a master swordsmith who dedicated himself to reviving the tradition of the Japanese sword, successfully restoring an art form that had twice faced extinction—first due to the Sword Abolition Edict and later following Japan's defeat in World War II. He had over fifty disciples, including Ningen-Kokuho (Living National Treasures) Miyairi Akihira and Amata Akitsugu , as well as the first Yoshihara Kuniie(who held "Mukansa" status, exempting him from judging). He was also active in the political world, serving as a member of the House of Representatives representing Tochigi Prefecture.
This sword was a meticulously crafted special order for Eijiro Okamura, the founder of the children's clothing brand Pinocchio. This sword has Juka-Chouji, Fukuro-Chouji, Kawazuko-Chouji and mixed Tobiyaki, Gorgeouse Midare-yaki, an excellent sword.
