- 直綱は、名を久右衛門といい、正宗門と伝え、正宗十哲の一人に数えられる名工で、南北朝時代に石見国出羽に住し鍛刀した。その作風は、黒みがある地鉄に、杢を交えて地景が入り、刃文は互の目を主調として、砂流しかかるなど相州伝の特徴が顕著である。この刀は、鋒延びごころで、反りの深い堂々とした体配に、板目肌よく練れて、杢目を交えて、地景頻りによく入り、地沸厚くつき、黒味掛かった地鉄が冴え、互の目に、丁子刃・湯走り・飛び焼き・二十刃など掛り、華やかに乱れ、沸匂が美しく絡み、足・葉頻りに入り、金筋・沸筋・砂流し幾重にも頻りに掛り、匂深く、匂口明るく冴えるなど刃中の働き盛んで、覇気溢れる傑作である。Naotsuna, whose name was Kyuemon, is said to be Masamunemon, and was a master craftsman counted as one of the Masamune Jittetsu. During the Nanbokucho era, he lived and worked in Dewa, Iwami Province. His style is characterized by dark blackish Jigane, Mixed Moku and Chikei entered, Hamon is dominated by Gunome, with prominent Sosyu-den characteristics such as Sunagashi-kakaru.
