- 長船勝光は、初代が応永頃で、室町後期まで代の継承がみられるが、室町中期文明(1469年)頃の右京亮、その子永正(1504年)頃の次郎左衛門尉には、重文や重美の指定品もあり特に上手で、右京亮の弟左京進宗光を含め末備前を代表する名工である。この刀は、文明十二年の年紀が入る右京亮勝光の作で、身幅広く、重ね0.8cm、反り深い豪壮な片手打ちの姿で、板目肌に、杢目・小杢目肌交じり、地沸厚くつき、地景仕切りに入り、乱れ映りが立つ地鉄に、中直刃に、小互の目交じり、ほつれ・食い違い・二十刃など掛り、小足・葉入り、小沸つき、金筋細かく頻りに掛るなど刃中よく働き、匂口明るく冴える優品である。Osafune Katsumitsu was first generation around Ouei, and inheritance can be seen until the late Muromachi period, but Ukyouryou around the middle Muromachi Bunmei (1469) and Jirouzaemonnojou around its child Nagamasa (1504) have Juyo Bunkazai and Juyo Bijutsuhin.
