- 重国は、大和伝手掻派の末裔で、名を九郎三郎といい、駿府の徳川家康に召されたのち、元和頃に紀州徳川家初代の徳川頼宣に従って紀州に移った新刀期屈指の名工である。本作は、身幅広く、元は81cmを超える豪壮刀で、小杢目肌に、杢目肌交じり、鎬地は柾掛り、地沸微塵に厚くつき、地景細かく頻りに入る黒く冴えた地鉄に、中直刃に、ほつれ・食い違い・湯走り・二十刃掛り、小足・葉頻りに入り、小沸深くつき、金筋・砂流し掛り、匂深く、匂口明るく冴え渡り、歯肉つき健全な大和伝の傑作である。Shigekuni was a descendant of the Yamato Den Tekaki school, and his name was Kurozaburo.
