画題の鳥刺とは、細い竹竿などの先端に鳥黐(とりもち)をつけ、小鳥を捕えること。
程乘は、後藤宗家九代、慶長八年―寛文十三年、七代顕乘の嫡男。八代即乘没後、十代廉乘が幼少のため、本家を継いで廉乘を後見した。また顕乘の後を受けて加賀前田家に仕え、法橋に叙せられた。Syakudounanakoji Takabori Kingin(Gold and silver) Iroe,
The subject of the painting, Tori(Bird)sashi, is the practice of catching small birds with a bird catcher attached to the end of a thin bamboo pole. Teijo was the ninth head of the Goto family, and lived from(1603) to Kanbun 13th(1673). and was the eldest son of the seventh head Kenjo. After the death of the eighth lord, Sokujo, the tenth lord, Renjo, was still a child, so he succeeded the head family and acted as guardian to Renjo. He also succeeded Kenjo in serving the Maeda family of Kaga, and was awarded the title of Hokyo.
