Moritoshi's name was Kiyoemon Iwamoto, and he was a senior disciple of Chounsai Tsunatoshi. He later studied under Munetsugu Koyama, and became a blacksmith for the Yoshikawa family of the Iwakuni domain in Suo Province, a branch domain of the Mori family.
It is said that his master Tsunatoshi had his son Koretoshi train under Moritoshi in Iwakuni from the age of 12, and it is clear that he was highly regarded and trusted among the Tsunatoshi family, which included master craftsmen such as Unju Korekazu. . Died in 3rd year of Keio era at the age of 66.
