Bicchunokuni Aoe school is said to have originated with Yasutsugu around the Jouan era (late Heian period) and produced numerous master swordsmiths up through the Nanbokucho period. The surface texture is characterized by a so called Chirimen-style appearance, Oftenw with Mixed Jifu, Hamon is Suguha-style and mixed Small-Midare, Gorgeouse Sakachouji too.
This sword has wide Mihaba, Sakizori-tsuki, Chu-Kissaki extended appearance from the Nanbokucho period, Mixed Itamehada-tsumi, Mokumehada entered frequently. Jinie entered fine and thick, Chikei entered frequently, Midare-Utsuritatsu with beautiful Jigane, Suguha-style, Small-Midare and Mixed Small-Gunome, Mixed Sakagakatta-Ashi, Yubashiri-kakari, Small-Nie entered well, Nioikuchi is bright, Extremely Kenzen an excellent sword. It is said to be a sword once worn by Honda Tadakatsu, and its certification as Juyo Bijutsuhin was issued in the name of Hosokawa Moritatsu, the 16th head of the Hosokawa family.
