- 正宗十哲の一人に数えられる兼氏が大和より美濃国志津の地に移り一派は大いに栄えた。後に兼氏の子・門人である兼友・兼信・兼次・兼重らが同国直江の地に移住したため、南北朝時代に活躍したこの刀工達を直江志津と呼称している。この刀は、身幅広く、先幅広く、棟を削ぎ落とした鎬の高い作り込みで、大鋒となる南北朝時代の姿、互の目に、丁子刃交じり、飛び焼き頻りに掛り、足・葉よく入り、大小の沸が深くよく付き、金筋・沸筋・砂流し幾重にも頻りに掛るなど刃中の働き盛んで、匂口明るく冴え覇気溢れる傑作である。Kaneuji, one of Masamune-Jittetsu, moved from Yamato to the land of Minonokuni Shizu and the faction prospered, but later his students Kanetomo, Kanetsugu, Kaneshige, Kanenobu and others moved to the land of Naoe in the same area and made swords. , These swordsmiths who were active in the Nanbokuchou era are called Naoeshidu.
