南北朝末期の明徳二年（１３９１年）に祐定銘の最初の作刀が見られ、その後末備前と呼ばれる室町後期の長船鍛冶の中で最も繁栄した一家で、彦兵衛尉、与三左衛門尉、源兵衛尉などが上手である。与三左衛門尉祐定は、彦兵衛尉の子で、応仁元年生まれ、末備前随一の名工である。作刀は文亀から天文の長きに及ぶ。天文十一年七十六歳没。この刀は、反りの深い片手打ちの美しい姿で、杢目が頻りに交じり、地景よく入り、乱れ映りたつ地鉄に、互の目に、丁子刃・尖刃・蛙子調の丁子など交じり、湯走り・飛び焼き頻りに掛かり、金筋掛かり、華やかに乱れる。寒山鞘書に与三左衛門尉祐定若打傑作とある生ぶ茎、目立つ傷欠点もない傑作である。The first sword made by the Sukesada family was in the second year of the Meitoku era (1391) during the Nanbokucho period.
Later, this family prospered among the long-ship blacksmiths of the late Muromachi period, known as Sue Bizen, and skilled craftsmen included Hikobeenojo, Yosozaemonnojo, and Genbeenojo. Yosazaeonnojou Sukesada is a child of Hikobeejou, born in the first year of Onin, and is the best master craftsman in SueBizen. His swords range from Bunki to Tenmon. He died at the age of 76 in the 11th year of Tenmon.
