- 初代兼若は、名を辻村甚六といい、志津三郎兼氏の末裔と伝え、美濃より加賀に移住し、加州兼若派の祖となる。元和２年に越中守を受領、名を高平と改めている。金沢藩では「兼若を持っている者には禄はひくくても娘を嫁にやる」と言われるほど称賛され、「加賀正宗」と呼称された。
この刀は、身幅広く、中鋒延びる慶長新刀の姿で、小沸よく付き、金筋長く掛かるなど刃中よく働き、初代に極められるだけに出来がよく、覇気溢れる優品である。The first Kanewaka, whose name was Jinroku Tsujimura, is said to have been a descendant of Shizusaburo Kaneuji, moved from Mino to Kaga, and became the founder of the Kashu Kanewaka school. In the 2nd year of Genwa, he received the title of Etchu no kami and changed his name to Takahira. In the Kanazawa domain, he was so praised that it was said, ``If you have Kanewaka, you will marry your daughter even if you get less stipend,'' and he was called ``Kaga Masamune.''
