The Syouami school prospered together with the Umetada school from the Muromachi period to the late Edo period. Items from the Muromachi and Momoyama periods are called Kosyoami. On the other hand, the one that dates back to the Momoyama and Edo periods is sometimes called Kyoshoami. Centering on Kyoto, it spread widely throughout the country in Iyo, Awa, Aizu, Akita, Shonai, and the Edo period. The tsuba is made of round, well-forged iron with design-like openwork and textured inlays.
