The Bicchu Aoe school was a group of swordsmiths active mainly in the lower reaches of the Takahashi River in Bicchu, and is said to have begun with Yasutsugu and his son Moritsugu around the Jouan period at the end of the Heian period.
The works from the end of the Heian period to the mid-Kamakura period are broadly classified as Ko-Aoe, and those from after that period are called Aoe.
