- 姿Shape
- 平造、三ツ棟、身幅広く、浅く反りつく。Hiradukuri, Mitsumune, Wide Mihaba, Shallow Soritsuku.
- 鍛Kitae
- 板目肌に、杢目肌交じり、地沸微塵に厚くつき、淡く映り立ち、地景入る。Itamehada, Mixed Mokumehada, Jinie entered fine and thick, Faintly Utsuritachi, Chikei entered.

- 越前兼植は、初代が美濃から朝倉義景に請われ一乗谷に移ったのに始まり、越前で四代続いている。この刀は、身幅広く、浅く反りのつく南北朝の姿を呈する豪壮な平脇差で、地沸微塵につき、地景よく入り、淡く映り立つ明るく冴えた地鉄に、直刃調に、小互の目交じり、小沸つき、小足入り、匂口明るく出来が良い。倶利伽羅の彫も見事である。Echizen Kanetane began when the first head of the family was asked by Asakura Yoshikage to move from Mino to Ichijodani, and has continued in Echizen for four generations.
