- 備中青江派は、備中高梁川下流域を中心に活躍した刀工群で、平安末期承安頃の安次を祖として始まると伝えられ、平安末期から鎌倉前期暦仁頃までのものを古青江、それ以降を青江と大別している。古青江には、他に守次・貞次・恒次・次家・正恒などがいる。この刀は、元は二尺八寸を超える太刀で、身幅広く、反り深く、腰反りつき、中鋒となる鎌倉前期の堂々とした姿で、板目肌に、杢目交じり、乱れ映りが立つ地鉄に、直刃調に、小互の目交り、足入り、湯走りかかり、小沸よくつき、金筋・砂流し掛るなど刃中よく働き、古調な小乱れ刃を焼くなど、古青江の特色を遺憾なく発揮して出来がよく、800年の時を超え尚且つ健全な文化財級の名品である。The Bichu Aoe school is a group of swordsmiths who were active mainly in the lower reaches of the Takahashi River in Bichu.The period from the end of the Heian period to the early Kamakura period is classified as Ko-Aoe, and the period after that is classified as Aoe.
