- 吉元は、福岡一文字の代表工吉房の子で、鎌倉中期正元頃に活躍している。この太刀は、身幅尋常、腰反りつき、中鋒に結ぶ鎌倉中期の体配で、区送りもしていない完全生ぶな作刀時の姿を留め、板目肌に、小板目肌に、大肌交じり、地景よく入り、映りが立つ地鉄に、のたれに、小乱れ・丁子交じり、湯走り飛び焼き頻りに掛り、足・葉頻りに入り、沸深くつき、金筋・砂流し頻りに掛るなど刃中よく働き、匂口明るい傑作である。Yoshimoto was the son of Yoshifusa, the representative of Fukuoka Ichimonji, and was active around the time of Shogen in the middle Kamakura period.
