大和尻懸派の祖は則弘と伝えているが、彼の確実な遺作を見ず、今日ではその子則長が一派の事実上の祖とみなされている。大和物は在銘作が少ないが、則長の作には鎌倉末期文保三年四十八、南北朝に入った暦応三年六十九と行年銘を切った短刀が現存し、その活動時期は明白である。この刀は、生茎在銘となる太刀で、年号が読めないのが惜しまれるが、大和則長作と明瞭に銘が残り、鎌倉末期の太刀姿を呈し、流れごころの小板目肌に地沸が微塵につき、映りが鮮明に表れ、直刃調に小互の目が連れる則長の特色が現れ、沸筋・砂流しかかり、小足・葉頻りに入るなど働き豊かで、出来が優れている。福岡昭和23年の所持許可書が附帯する黒田家伝来と思われる名品である。The Yamato Shikkake ancestor reports Norihiro, but he has not seen his definitive work and today his son Norinaga is considered the de facto ancestor of the sect.
