- 備中妹尾は、平家方の妹尾一族の本拠地で、高梁川下流域の青江の地より東方備前寄りに位置している。正恒は、その妹尾で、平安末期養和頃から鎌倉初期建永頃に活躍した刀工と伝え、国宝1点・重要文化財6点が指定されている。本作は、茎尻は僅かに詰めているが作刀時の姿を留める雉股生茎の太刀で、身幅広く、反り深く、腰反り・踏ん張り付き、先細くなり小鋒に結ぶ平安後期の優美な姿を呈し、板目肌に杢目交え、地沸微塵に厚くつき、映り立ち、地班交じりの縮緬風の美しい地鉄に、直刃調に、のたれ・小乱れ交じり、湯走り掛り、足・葉頻りに入る古雅な出来で、深くついた沸がキラキラと輝き、金筋・砂流し掛り、匂口明るく冴える格調高い名刀である。平肉残り健全で、刀銘に入る二字銘も鮮明に残る。Bitchu Senoo was the home base of the Seno0 clan, which supported the Taira clan, and is located east of Aoe in the lower reaches of the Takahashi River, closer to Bizen.
Masatsune was a swordsmith from Seno, who is said to have been active from around Youwa in the late Heian period to around Kenei in the early Kamakura period, and has one Kokuho(designated national treasure) and six Juyo Bunkazai(important cultural properties).
This sword is a Kijimata-Ubunakago sword that retains the shape it was made with, although the Nakago-jiri is slightly narrowed. Wide Mihaba, Deep Sori, Koshizori and Funbaritsuki, The tip tapers and is connected to Small-Kissaki, giving it an elegant appearance from the late Heian period. Itamehada with mixed Mokume, Jinie entered fine and thickly, Utsuriatchi, Mixed Jifu with Chirimen-style beautiful Jigane, Suguha-style, Notare, Mixed small-Midare, Yubashiri-kakari, There are Ashi and You frequently, It hs an elegant sword, with a Deep Nie that shines brightly. The two-character inscription on the sword also remains clearly visible.
